ACT Sample Test
The ACT (American College Testing) is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. Math: The Math section evaluates your mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills. It covers a range of topics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. You’ll encounter multiple-choice questions as well as questions that require you to grid in numerical answers.
Reading: In the Reading section, you’ll read four passages from various disciplines, such as prose fiction, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. You’ll be tested on your comprehension of each passage, including your ability to understand main ideas, draw inferences, and analyze the author’s purpose and tone.
Science: The Science section assesses your ability to interpret and analyze scientific data and information. You’ll encounter passages related to biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth/space sciences, and you’ll be asked to answer questions based on charts, graphs, experiments, and research summaries.
Writing (Optional): The Writing section presents you with a prompt that presents a specific issue and asks you to take a position on that issue. You’ll need to develop and support your viewpoint with reasoning and examples. This section is scored separately from the other sections and is optional for most colleges.
The ACT is a multiple-choice test, with each section scored on a scale of 1 to 36. Your overall ACT score is the average of your scores on the four mandatory sections (English, Math, Reading, and Science), rounded to the nearest whole number. The optional Writing section is scored separately on a scale of 2 to 12.
The ACT is typically administered on specific test dates throughout the year at designated test centers.
