Survey of Natural Sciences: The survey of natural sciences section evaluates your understanding of biological and physical science concepts. It consists of 100 multiple-choice questions divided into two subsections: biology and general chemistry/organic chemistry. The biology subsection covers topics such as cellular and molecular biology, genetics, and anatomy and physiology, while the general chemistry/organic chemistry subsection covers topics such as stoichiometry, chemical reactions, and organic functional groups.
Reading Comprehension: The reading comprehension section assesses your ability to understand and analyze written passages. You’ll read several passages on various topics, such as natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and answer multiple-choice questions that test your comprehension, inference, and critical reasoning skills.
Physics: The physics section evaluates your understanding of basic physics principles and concepts. It consists of 40 multiple-choice questions covering topics such as mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, optics, and atomic and nuclear physics.
Quantitative Reasoning: The quantitative reasoning section measures your mathematical skills and ability to solve quantitative problems. It consists of 40 multiple-choice questions covering topics such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and trigonometry. The questions may require you to interpret data, solve equations, and make calculations.
OAT Test Sections: The OAT includes additional sections that may vary depending on the version of the test you take. These sections may include an optional survey of the natural sciences practice test, a reading comprehension practice test, and a physics practice test.
The OAT is administered via computer at designated test centers in the United States, Canada, and other countries. Each section of the OAT is scored separately, and scores range from 200 to 400 for each section. The total OAT score is the sum of the scores for the four sections, with a maximum total score of 1600.
